The QS World Future Skills Index reaffirms UAE’s leadership in building future-ready higher education ecosystem, the Emirates News Agency reported on Wednesday. The latest edition of the index evaluates national higher education systems on their ability to align with evolving labor market demands, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, sustainability and digital transformation. UAE institutions have consistently performed well in these metrics, building on years of strategic investment in education reform.
According to the QS data, the UAE leads all Arab countries in the overall index score as well as in individual categories such as academic readiness and skills alignment. The report places the UAE 29th globally, a position that reflects significant progress since the index’s inception. This standing comes as the assessment covers 89 countries with a focus on how effectively systems prepare students for future employment.
The index shows the United States ranking first overall while India secures 13th place with strong performance in AI readiness, the QS World Future Skills Index 2027 indicated. For the MENA region, the UAE’s scores in economic transformation and future of work stand out as regional benchmarks. Additional data from the report highlights performance across four key criteria including skills fit and academic readiness.
Emirates News Agency figures show that the UAE has expanded its university partnerships with global institutions to enhance curriculum relevance. Over the past five years, the number of programs focused on future skills has increased substantially across Emirati universities. These collaborations have helped integrate emerging technologies into educational frameworks.
A QS assessment found that strong higher education ecosystems improve alignment between graduate capabilities and employer expectations. In the UAE, this has been supported by national policies that promote lifelong learning alongside degree programs. The Ministry of Education has rolled out multiple initiatives targeting workforce upskilling in priority sectors.
The report also notes the rising demand for green skills and digital competencies worldwide. UAE’s results in these domains have been particularly robust, establishing the country as an innovation center within the Middle East. QS data places the nation’s higher education system ahead of other Arab states in preparing for occupational shifts driven by technological change.
