The ministry stated that the armed forces remain on a high state of readiness to address any potential threats. This latest development comes as the UAE has faced repeated aerial threats from Iran throughout 2026. Reuters reported in May that the UAE’s air defences engaged missile and drone threats originating from Iran leading to flight diversions across the region.
According to the May 4 Reuters dispatch the UAE intercepted three Iranian missiles over its territorial waters with a fourth crashing into the sea. The attacks prompted a fire at a key energy facility in Fujairah injuring three people and disrupting air traffic with multiple inbound flights diverted to Oman. Kurdistan 24 reported that the country has been targeted by more than 2,800 missiles and drones from Iran since the outbreak of broader regional hostilities. The scale of such threats has required sustained vigilance from UAE air defence units which include both ground systems and fighter aircraft. The latest Monday response aligns with that pattern of intercepting projectiles before they reach populated or critical areas.
