The inaugural UAE-US Strategic Financial Dialogue took place in Washington this week co-chaired by Minister of State for Financial Affairs Mohammed bin Hadi Al Hussaini and US Treasury officials. Discussions addressed ways to strengthen bilateral economic ties through enhanced collaboration on fintech digital assets and sustainable investment. The meeting builds on long-standing partnerships between the two countries with the Emirates News Agency noting that participants reviewed progress on previous financial initiatives and identified new areas for joint work. Al Hussaini highlighted the importance of open dialogue in navigating global economic uncertainties according to the official readout.

The two sides agreed to establish working groups on anti-money laundering measures and cross-border payments a development that aligns with broader Gulf efforts to modernise financial infrastructure. Central Bank of the UAE data from last year places the volume of remittances and financial flows between the countries at more than $30 billion annually underscoring the practical value of closer coordination. Officials also exchanged views on regulatory approaches to cryptocurrencies with both delegations stressing the need for balanced oversight that encourages innovation while mitigating risks.

Sustainable finance emerged as a key theme with discussions centring on green bonds and climate-related financial disclosures. A World Bank assessment of Middle East investment trends indicates that the UAE has emerged as one of the region’s largest issuers of such instruments in recent years with green bond sales exceeding $10 billion since 2020. The dialogue partners committed to sharing best practices in this area as part of wider international alignment on environmental economic and governance standards the Emirates News Agency stated.

US participants outlined priorities around supply chain resilience and technology cooperation areas where the UAE has expanded its role as a regional logistics and innovation hub. According to International Monetary Fund figures the UAE economy grew by 4.2 percent in 2025 outpacing many advanced economies and attracting record foreign direct investment inflows. The dialogue provided a platform to explore how American firms could tap into these opportunities while supporting Emirati goals for economic diversification beyond oil.

Both delegations reviewed ongoing collaboration within multilateral forums including the International Monetary Fund and Financial Action Task Force. The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold the next round of talks in Abu Dhabi in 2027 to maintain momentum on the issues discussed. Senior representatives from the UAE Ministry of Finance the Central Bank and financial regulators attended alongside their American counterparts the Emirates News Agency reported.
