The memorandum will enable the two sides to assess potential cooperation across infrastructure, logistics, supply chains and optimisation of petrochemical storage facilities in the UAE, according to an announcement from Sharjah National Oil Corporation. Under the agreement the partners will also examine selected energy transition initiatives that align with broader sector goals. Sharjah National Oil Corporation operates the Sajaa gas processing complex along with LPG and condensate storage terminals at Hamriyah, which form key elements of its downstream infrastructure.
A Mordor Intelligence sector outlook projected the United Arab Emirates oil and gas downstream market to expand from 2.21 billion U.S. dollars in 2025 to 2.70 billion dollars by 2031, growing at a compound annual rate of 3.59 percent. This growth environment provides context for the new partnership, which focuses on liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas liquids and related products. The memorandum reflects efforts to strengthen supply security and commercial performance in a market that includes major players such as ADNOC and ENOC.
Khamis Al Mazrouei, CEO of SNOC, said, “We are delighted to partner with Equinor, a company globally recognised for its expertise and long-standing track record of excellence. This collaboration marks a significant step for SNOC, providing a platform to pursue practical, value-driven opportunities across the gas liquids value chain.” The statement from Sharjah24, which carried the announcement, highlighted how the chief executive positioned the deal as an expansion of SNOC’s existing capabilities in gas and liquids handling.
Alex Grant, Equinor Senior Vice President for Crude, Products and Liquids Trading, said, “By building a partnership around SNOC’s infrastructure position and Equinor’s equity volumes, trading, logistics and broad access to global markets, our two companies are positioned to deliver value-driven solutions that strengthen energy security for regional and international markets.” The Equinor executive’s remarks underscored the complementary strengths each party brings to the arrangement. Equinor maintains extensive trading operations and has previously collaborated with UAE entities on both traditional and low-carbon energy projects.
The agreement underscores the shared ambition of SNOC and Equinor to identify commercially attractive prospects along the downstream value chain while advancing the UAE’s priorities in energy security, infrastructure and economic development, the announcement stated. SNOC has expanded its portfolio in recent years to include renewable integration such as a 60-megawatt solar plant at its Sajaa site. Industry observers note that such partnerships can help optimise existing assets amid rising regional demand for processed energy products.
