The Sharjah Museums Authority has unveiled a new visual identity as it celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. According to a statement from the authority, the design unifies the body and its 20 museums under a single contemporary visual system that honours the emirate’s cultural heritage. The identity further reaffirms the organisation’s focus on preserving museum collections, expanding knowledge and promoting learning and exploration among diverse audiences.
Elements of the new branding take inspiration from the arches that characterise many of Sharjah’s historic buildings and museum facilities, the authority reported. Flowing forms derived from Arabic calligraphy have been employed to convey ideas of creativity, dynamic movement, discovery and community linkage. A balanced colour scheme that fuses authentic heritage hues with innovative tones completes the integrated system of logos, graphics and icons.
The authority described the rebranding as representing a significant new chapter in its evolution rather than a mere cosmetic adjustment. It is designed to enhance the cultural impact of the museums and expand their reach on the international stage. Additionally, the updated identity will aid in delivering more captivating and participatory experiences for both visitors and local communities.
Her Excellency Maissa Saif Alsuwaidi, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, said the new identity mirrors the profound purpose of the organisation and its forward-looking objectives. “The new identity reflects both the depth of our mission and our ambitions for the future. It reinforces our commitment to preserving heritage, enriching knowledge and keeping museums vibrant spaces for learning, discovery and cultural dialogue.” Alsuwaidi’s remarks were included in the official announcement detailing the design principles.
According to the Sharjah Museums Authority, the development reflects the longstanding vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who has embedded culture and knowledge deeply within the emirate’s growth agenda. Since its founding in 2006, the Sharjah Museums Authority has developed an extensive network that now comprises 20 specialised museums covering a wide array of subjects. This milestone rebranding is expected to support the authority’s continued efforts to strengthen its position as a key player in regional cultural development.
