According to the Emirates News Agency, Menassah Distribution Company makes debut at Hong Kong Book Fair, showcasing more than 300 Arabic and English titles across genres including literature, history, science and children’s books. The exhibition takes place at the 35th edition of the event organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and running from July 16 to July 22 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Sultan Al Mutawaa, general manager of Menassah Distribution Company, said the participation reflects the firm’s strategy to broaden its distribution channels in Asian markets. In the company statement, Al Mutawaa noted that the fair provides an excellent platform to connect with regional booksellers and readers.
Hong Kong Trade Development Council figures show that the book fair regularly draws close to 1 million visitors, with a record attendance of 1.04 million recorded in 2018. This year’s event is expected to offer similar opportunities for networking and sales amid a diverse international exhibitor lineup. The fair also incorporates cultural programs, seminars and author sessions that complement the commercial aspects of the gathering. HKTDC data from past editions indicated that more than 9 percent of visitors came from overseas.
The WAM report identified Menassah Distribution Company as a subsidiary of Emirates Publishing House, which brings a catalogue developed in the UAE to the Asian audience for the first time. The selection includes works that highlight cultural and educational themes relevant to both Arab and international readers. UAE-based publishers have increasingly looked to events like this to expand beyond traditional markets in the Middle East and Europe, according to industry reports.
Recent HKTDC assessments found that the fair serves as a major platform for publishers from dozens of countries to engage with retailers and professionals. This aspect makes it particularly suitable for a distributor seeking to establish new partnerships during the seven-day period. Exhibitors benefit from the concentrated presence of industry professionals at the venue.
The publishing sector in the UAE has benefited from national strategies to promote culture and knowledge, government reports indicate. Participation in global book fairs forms a key component of these efforts to position the country as a hub for publishing and distribution. Menassah’s debut fits within this framework by introducing its titles to one of Asia’s premier book events.
Emirates News Agency coverage of the announcement highlighted the strategic importance of the Hong Kong market for Arabic content. The company plans to use the platform to explore distribution agreements with local partners. This step could open avenues for greater visibility of UAE publications in the wider Asia-Pacific region.
