The Dubai-based low-cost carrier welcomed passengers on its first commercial service to Aleppo International Airport where a ceremony featured a water cannon salute and remarks from aviation leaders. According to the Emirates News Agency the event underscored growing connectivity as Syria rebuilds its infrastructure following years of conflict. flydubai officials joined Syrian counterparts at the airport to mark the occasion which included traditional performances and symbolic gestures of partnership. The carrier plans regular flights linking the two cities with schedules designed to support both business travel and family visits.

flydubai has steadily expanded its network across the Middle East and beyond with the Aleppo route adding to its portfolio of destinations in emerging markets. The Emirates News Agency noted that the inaugural flight carried a full complement of passengers demonstrating immediate demand for the direct link. Industry observers point to similar route launches that have facilitated trade and tourism in post-conflict regions across the wider area. Data from the International Air Transport Association shows Middle East carriers have increased intra-regional capacity by more than 15 percent in recent years as demand rebounds.

Syrian aviation authorities have worked to reopen airports and attract international operators with Aleppo serving as a key hub in the country’s northern region. The Emirates News Agency reported that the new service forms part of broader efforts to restore air links severed during the civil war that ended in 2024. Officials at the ceremony highlighted how such connections can support economic recovery by enabling faster movement of goods and people. flydubai said the route will operate multiple times weekly using its Boeing 737 aircraft configured for both economy and business class.

The carrier’s chief executive Ghaith Al Ghaith attended the celebrations and spoke about the strategic importance of the addition. In remarks distributed by the Emirates News Agency he stated “We are delighted to launch our services to Aleppo and look forward to playing a role in the country’s reconstruction efforts.” Syrian transport representatives expressed appreciation for the UAE carrier’s decision to pioneer the route at this time. The inaugural flight follows regulatory approvals secured earlier this year between the two civil aviation bodies.

flydubai now serves more than 120 destinations in over 50 countries according to company fleet and route statistics published on its corporate platform. The addition of Aleppo brings its Syrian network to two cities after it began services to Damascus in 2022. Regional aviation analysts with the Arab Air Carriers Organization have tracked a steady rise in passenger numbers on UAE-Syria routes since restrictions eased. This growth aligns with Dubai’s role as a major global transit hub handling over 90 million passengers annually as reported by Dubai Airports.

UAE-Syria relations have deepened in recent years with increased trade and investment paving the way for enhanced transport links. The Emirates News Agency placed the new air service within that context noting its potential to boost tourism and commercial exchanges. Passengers on the inaugural flight included business delegates and residents with ties to both countries. Further expansion of services will depend on demand and ongoing coordination between aviation regulators in the UAE and Syria.
