The certification was awarded under the LEED Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance rating system, one of the world’s leading green building standards. A statement from the foundation distributed via the Emirates News Agency detailed that the evaluation drew on 12 months of operational data encompassing energy efficiency, water consumption, waste management, transportation and indoor air quality. Water consumption totaled approximately 3.16 million gallons during the assessment period while satisfying the benchmark for Gold certification.

Al Jalila Foundation said in a statement that its facility incorporated multiple sustainable solutions to support a healthier environment for staff and visitors. These include a solar energy project launched in 2024 with Positive Zero that installed photovoltaic panels across buildings and parking areas to generate renewable power. The site also utilises LED lighting with centralised controls, advanced building management systems and a district cooling network to optimise resource consumption and reduce its overall footprint.

The foundation plays a central role in advancing Dubai Health’s vision through the integration of care, learning, discovery and giving. According to the foundation’s statement, the LEED Gold recognition aligns with its commitment to environmental responsibility alongside its philanthropic activities in the health sector. The certification process confirmed compliance with standards designed to promote occupant comfort and minimise environmental impact.

Data from the Green Building Information Gateway places the total number of LEED certifications and related activities in the United Arab Emirates above 2,200. A CBRE assessment of the UAE sustainability market found that LEED-certified assets achieved average occupancy rates of 96.2 percent in 2023, outperforming non-certified properties. The same assessment noted that such buildings typically command rental premiums of around 33 percent compared with conventional developments.

The LEED EBOM system focuses on ongoing building performance rather than initial design specifications. According to the criteria outlined in the foundation’s submission, points were awarded for effective waste diversion, sustainable transport options and maintenance of high indoor environmental quality. The building met the thresholds required for Gold status across all measured categories during the monitored period.

Al Jalila Foundation said in a statement that the solar installation is projected to produce 4,403 megawatt hours of clean energy over 20 years while cutting carbon emissions by 3,121 metric tons. This reduction equates to the environmental benefit of planting more than 51,000 tree seedlings, based on earlier project data released by the organisation. The achievement contributes to the rising total of LEED Gold certifications recorded in the UAE throughout 2026.
