Ajman Transport Authority launches Future of Transport Hackathon, an initiative featuring the participation of students, innovators, developers and individuals interested in technology and artificial intelligence. The authority said the program seeks to develop solutions that can be applied to the transport sector while advancing innovation and digital transformation. Official channels outlined how the hackathon would serve as a platform for community contributions to future mobility projects in the emirate.

Emirati Times reported that the Ajman transport network recorded more than 6.6 million trips in the first half of 2026, a volume that illustrates the expanding demand for improved services the hackathon is positioned to support. The authority has pursued other technology upgrades in recent months to enhance operational efficiency across its network. One such project involved the launch of an open-loop and contactless payment system for public transport buses.

A post on o-city.com stated that the payment system, developed in collaboration with BPC, features an advanced automatic fare collection mechanism based on zones and stops that enables comprehensive transaction monitoring. The authority became the first entity in the country to implement this technology, according to the same report. The development forms part of a series of steps the authority has taken to integrate modern tools into daily transport operations.

Ajmanmedia.ae reported that the authority launched the corporate identity of the Transport Centre for Innovation and Future Foresight in May 2026 after first establishing the centre in 2024. The centre operates as a specialised platform for anticipating the future of transport and piloting smart as well as sustainable projects. The hackathon connects to these activities by soliciting ideas from a wide pool of participants to inform the centre’s ongoing work.

The authority’s announcement on its social media accounts encouraged broad engagement in the hackathon to generate practical outcomes for the transport system. Participation remains open to both individuals and teams with an interest in relevant technical fields. Additional details on the initiative can be found through the authority’s verified online presence.
