Dubai Police General Command will organise the second edition of the Proud of the UAE cycling race on Sunday as part of its broader seasonal programme of competitions. The 80-kilometre event is set to begin at 6am from the Nad Al Sheba Centre and carries a total prize purse of AED140,000. The race is being arranged in cooperation with the UAE Cycling Federation, Dubai Sports Council and the Roads and Transport Authority, according to the Emirates News Agency.
The full programme of 14 cycling and multisport races running from September 2026 to April 2027 was announced during a press conference at the Cycling Hub at the Dubai Police Officers Club in Al Jaddaf. Major General Badran Saeed Al Shamsi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Academy and Training Affairs at Dubai Police, said the series reflects the force’s commitment to supporting sporting initiatives that enhance quality of life and promote sport as a way of life. He added that the events bring sport and the community together while providing opportunities for physical activity in a competitive environment, the Emirates News Agency reported.
Dubai Police said the Proud of the UAE race forms part of sporting and national events aimed at promoting pride in the UAE and celebrating its achievements. The initiative also seeks to encourage sport as a way of life and to contribute to the health and well-being of the community. A first edition held in May 2026 covered 60 kilometres with a prize pool of AED264,000 and produced winners across open and national amateur categories for men and women.
Gulf News reported that the May race started from Nad Al Sheba Police Station, passed through Global Village via Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Street and concluded at the same location. In the open men’s category that day Griga Paul took first place ahead of Sofiane Haddi and Rashid Al Blooshi. Maddy Black claimed top spot in the open women’s division with Ines Cantera second and Samah Khalid third.
The Nad Al Sheba area has become a regular venue for these police-organised events that accommodate both competitive cyclists and community participants. Similar Dubai Police fitness initiatives at the Dubai Autodrome drew more than 2,000 people in a single session earlier in 2026, The National reported. Captain Yousif Mirza Al Hammadi, manager of the Dubai Police Cycling Team, said previous events had attracted strong participation from cyclists and sports enthusiasts, reflecting growing community engagement with cycling activities.
The force’s wider calendar also includes the Dubai Police Triathlon, which made its debut in October and was added to the international triathlon calendar for the first time. Major Ahmad Al Bahr, director of the Sports Excellence Department at Dubai Police, noted that the triathlon’s inclusion underscores the rising popularity of such sports locally and globally. Captain Saeed Al Marri, a member of Team Dubai Police, stated that the programme aims to enhance quality of life, encourage physical activity and strengthen social cohesion within the community.
