The Emirates News Agency reported that ‘Bayt Al Hikayat’ has reframed empowerment programs for People of Determination as a cultural initiative at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The dedicated pavilion features storytelling sessions, interactive workshops and exhibitions tailored to participants with disabilities. Officials from the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre described the space as a platform where visitors engage directly with narratives created by and for People of Determination. A partnership with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination helped shape the program’s activities, which run throughout the fair’s duration.

Activities at the pavilion include Braille book displays, sign language storytelling performances and creative writing sessions adapted for different abilities. The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre data places the number of specialized workshops at more than a dozen, drawing participation from both residents and international visitors. One session invited attendees to co-create stories based on personal experiences of inclusion and resilience. These elements build on the fair’s broader goal of promoting Arabic literature while expanding accessibility across all programming.

A senior official told the Emirates News Agency that the pavilion demonstrates how cultural events can advance social integration. “This experience allows People of Determination to showcase their creativity and contribute to the cultural landscape in meaningful ways,” the official stated. The initiative aligns with national efforts that have increased public awareness of inclusive practices since the launch of the UAE’s National Strategy for People of Determination more than five years ago. Figures from the Ministry of Community Development indicate that over 60,000 individuals benefit from such programs across the federation.

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair has attracted more than 1,800 publishers from 90 countries in its latest edition, according to the organizing committee. Integration of the ‘Bayt Al Hikayat’ pavilion forms part of a wider push to make the event fully accessible, including ramps, assistive technologies and multilingual interpretation services. Organizers noted that visitor traffic to the inclusive section has exceeded initial projections, reflecting strong public interest in the topic. Previous editions of the fair have similarly incorporated themes of diversity, though this year’s focus on narrative empowerment stands out for its depth.

Research from the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination shows that cultural participation rates among target groups have risen by nearly 30 percent over the past three years. The pavilion’s design incorporates feedback from community members to ensure relevance and engagement. Sessions cover topics ranging from historical tales to contemporary issues, all presented in formats that accommodate various needs. This approach has drawn praise from attending families and educators who observed improved confidence among participants.

Additional exhibits within ‘Bayt Al Hikayat’ showcase artwork and literary contributions produced by People of Determination from across the region. The Emirates News Agency highlighted how these displays connect personal stories to larger cultural conversations taking place at the fair. Fair authorities plan to evaluate the program’s impact through participant surveys before deciding on expansions for future events. Data compiled by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre will guide adjustments to maximize reach in subsequent editions.
