The Emirates News Agency reported that UAE’s BRICS membership expands partnerships, strengthens global trade, investment role as the country deepens engagement with major emerging economies. The membership, which took effect alongside new entrants Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran, aligns with UAE efforts to diversify relations beyond traditional partners. International Monetary Fund assessments place current BRICS economies at more than 35 percent of global GDP when measured by purchasing power parity, offering the UAE a larger platform for collaboration.

UAE Federal Customs Authority data shows non-oil trade with BRICS nations rose 22 percent in 2025 from the prior year, setting new records particularly with China and India. This increase stems from streamlined agreements under the bloc that improved market access for Emirati exporters. Central Bank of the UAE figures further indicate higher foreign direct investment inflows from BRICS countries into sectors including logistics and advanced manufacturing.

A senior official told the Emirates News Agency that active participation in BRICS forums has produced tangible results in food security initiatives and climate finance projects. Joint ventures in renewable energy have multiplied, drawing on the UAE’s established leadership in clean technology development. These outcomes reflect the bloc’s shift toward concrete cooperation that delivers measurable economic gains for all members.

The New Development Bank set up by BRICS members has funded several infrastructure schemes featuring UAE involvement, according to the bank’s latest annual report. In 2025 the institution approved more than $10 billion in loans across participating countries, expanding its portfolio in sustainable projects. UAE contributions have enabled it to diversify investment holdings while supporting development priorities in Africa and Asia.

Cooperation has also advanced in technology and innovation, with the UAE proposing joint frameworks at recent BRICS summits on artificial intelligence and space applications. These proposals have led to memoranda of understanding that facilitate knowledge exchange among members. The Emirates News Agency highlighted how such steps establish the UAE as a connector between BRICS and wider international bodies.

UAE representatives have advocated for reforms in global financial governance during BRICS discussions, pushing for increased voice for developing nations in multilateral institutions. This stance builds on the country’s longstanding role in international forums. Officials have pursued alignment between BRICS objectives and national strategies for the years ahead, according to the agency report.
