Abu Dhabi City Municipality reported that the Little Captain Festival held along the Corniche welcomed 3,000 visitors as part of its summer entertainment programme aimed at families. The event centred on children’s engagement with UAE seafaring traditions through hands-on sessions that introduced maritime professions including pearl diving. Organisers collaborated with partners to deliver the activities under the Year of Community framework that prioritises resident happiness and social cohesion.

According to the municipality the festival incorporated multiple workshops such as the Little Nokhitha session the Little Lifeguard programme and sessions on repurposing marine waste into artwork. Participants learned about maintaining clean beaches free from plastics and received instruction in first aid for common emergencies as well as fire prevention techniques. Traditional Emirati etiquette sessions and handicraft demonstrations further connected young attendees with national heritage while musical performances added to the cultural experience.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport noted that such initiatives create enjoyable family destinations during the summer months when demand for recreational spaces rises. The festival aligned with broader efforts to highlight the municipality’s role in protecting marine environments and beaches through programmes like Blue Flag certification. Similar community events organised by the municipality have consistently drawn large numbers of residents seeking educational and entertaining outings.

Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi figures show the emirate recorded 26.6 million visitors in 2025 with cultural and leisure events attracting more than 4.2 million attendees across 252 activities. Heritage festivals including those focused on handicrafts and maritime traditions collectively drew over 608,000 participants that year according to the department’s data. The Little Captain Festival adds to this pattern by targeting younger audiences with interactive content that supports long-term awareness of sustainability and cultural roots.

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has organised the annual summer event on the Corniche to enhance community ties and provide accessible entertainment options for both residents and visitors. The programme forms one element of a wider calendar that includes park activities and beach initiatives which saw more than 638,000 users during Eid Al Adha celebrations in 2026 per municipality tallies. These efforts contribute to sustained growth in family oriented tourism within the capital.

Umm Al Emarat Park which serves as another key community hub welcomed more than 410,000 visitors during its 2025-2026 season according to park management reports. That venue hosted over 620 free family activities as part of its market programme reinforcing the demand for such inclusive experiences. The Little Captain Festival mirrors this approach by blending education with recreation to foster appreciation for Abu Dhabi’s maritime legacy among the next generation.
