The second round of political consultations between the United Arab Emirates and Greece took place in the Greek capital, the Emirates News Agency reported. Delegations headed by senior officials from both foreign ministries engaged in comprehensive discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues. The talks highlighted the depth of the strategic partnership that the two countries have built since establishing it in 2020. Greek and Emirati diplomats agreed on the importance of continued dialogue to tackle common challenges.

According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations covered cooperation in energy, trade and security matters among other fields. The meeting in Athens served as an opportunity to assess progress on previous agreements and identify new avenues for collaboration. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and respect for international law in addressing conflicts in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The discussions were described as constructive by participants.

Bilateral economic ties have expanded rapidly under the partnership framework, with Emirati direct investment in Greece exceeding the $4.3 billion target set in 2022. A May 2025 analysis by the Middle East Forum detailed how these investments have flowed into renewable energy, healthcare and tourism sectors. The 3.5 billion dollar deal between Masdar and GEK Terna signed in 2024 exemplifies the growing collaboration in clean energy, the analysis found.

The strategic relationship has also extended to defense and cultural exchanges, according to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Joint military exercises and cultural programs have helped strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations. The political consultations build upon high-level visits, such as the one by a UAE minister to Athens in March 2024 that focused on economic relations within the partnership.

UAE officials emphasized the role of the partnership in promoting stability in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Athens meeting, the Emirates News Agency said. Greece has found in the UAE a reliable partner for diversifying its energy sources and attracting foreign capital. The two countries first elevated their relations through a joint statement in 2020 that outlined broad areas of cooperation.

This latest round comes amid broader regional developments that require coordinated responses from like-minded nations, a point noted in multiple diplomatic briefings from both sides. The consultations follow virtual strategic forums held in previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two countries have held several rounds of such political consultations since establishing their strategic partnership.
