The Emirates News Agency announced that President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had sent a congratulatory message to the President of the Swiss Confederation. In the message the UAE President expressed wishes for the Swiss President’s good health and for the people of Switzerland to achieve further development and prosperity. Similar messages were dispatched by the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The messages were sent on the occasion of the Swiss Confederation’s National Day which is celebrated every year on August 1. This date marks the anniversary of the signing of the Federal Charter in 1291 that is considered the foundation of Switzerland. The Swiss President for 2026 Guy Parmelin was the recipient of these diplomatic greetings.
According to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs the UAE represents Switzerland’s most important trading partner in the Middle East with an annual bilateral trade volume of nearly 15 billion Swiss francs. The main Swiss exports to the UAE include watches jewellery pharmaceutical products and machinery. In return the UAE supplies precious metals stones and other commodities to the Swiss market.
UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs data shows that total trade between the two countries surged to more than 60 billion U.S. dollars in 2025 reflecting a significant growth from prior years. This increase was driven by a 129 percent rise in overall trade volume compared to 2024. The strong economic links complement the longstanding diplomatic relations established between the UAE and Switzerland decades ago.
Cooperation extends beyond trade to areas such as investment innovation and cultural exchange. Both nations participate in international forums to advance shared interests in stability and sustainable development. The exchange of congratulatory messages on national occasions serves to reinforce these multifaceted ties.
The UAE maintains embassies and diplomatic missions that facilitate ongoing engagement with Swiss authorities. Switzerland similarly operates representative offices in the UAE to support its citizens and business community. These channels ensure continuous dialogue on matters of mutual concern.
