The Asian Parliamentary Assembly which succeeded the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace in 2006 provides a platform for lawmakers to collaborate on peace and integration across the continent according to the organisation’s charter. The APA currently brings together 42 member parliaments and maintains several observers with each delegation allocated seats based on population size. Its standing committees including the one on social and cultural affairs meet to update resolutions and address regional priorities.
The UAE has maintained consistent involvement in APA activities attending similar committee sessions in Moscow Manama and Doha in recent years WAM reports show. These efforts enable the Federal National Council to convey national perspectives on social progress and legislative cooperation. IPU data places the FNC at 40 members equally divided between men and women reflecting the country’s commitment to inclusive representation.
Al Kashef told the committee that Asia derives strength from its diversity which must inform global governance structures. The UAE’s input called for greater respect for equality and peaceful coexistence among nations in line with its established foreign policy positions. Such contributions form part of broader endeavours to advance balanced international relations through legislative channels.
The wider 15th plenary session in Baku drew more than 250 delegates from 26 countries and resulted in adoption of the Baku Declaration on multilateral cooperation according to session records. The APA’s focus on social affairs complements parallel work on economic sustainability and political affairs across its committee structure. The Federal National Council’s participation highlights the UAE’s ongoing support for parliamentary mechanisms that tackle transnational social issues.
