The presentation occurred at Rashtrapati Bhavan where the ambassador received full military honors upon arrival according to the Emirates News Agency. Dr. Abdulnasser Jamal Alshaali conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Indian leader during the meeting. The Indian president welcomed the new envoy and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation across multiple sectors the news agency added. Alshaali was appointed to the post by federal decree in September 2022 and simultaneously as non-resident ambassador to Bhutan the following year according to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Prior to assuming the ambassadorial role Alshaali served as Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the ministry where he focused on advancing the country’s economic interests abroad. He previously directed the Economic and Trade Affairs Department and the Policy Planning Department within the same ministry the official biography states. The ambassador holds a doctorate in economics from the Australian National University along with multiple master’s degrees from institutions in France and Australia.

Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and India stood at more than $85 billion in fiscal year 2022-23 according to figures from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The two nations implemented a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 with the aim of boosting trade volumes substantially over the subsequent decade. This pact has opened avenues for greater collaboration in energy investment and technology transfer the ministry data shows.

The UAE hosts one of the largest Indian expatriate communities in the world with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs placing the population at approximately 3.5 million. These residents contribute significantly to both economies through skilled labor in key industries and substantial remittance flows back to India. Cultural and people-to-people ties form a foundational element of the overall relationship according to ministry assessments.

The two countries have signed numerous agreements in recent years covering areas from double taxation avoidance to joint ventures in renewable energy a former envoy noted in an earlier interview with industry analysts. Cooperation extends to multilateral formats such as the I2U2 grouping that pairs them with Israel and the United States on infrastructure and food security projects. Such frameworks have gained momentum following the disruptions experienced during the global pandemic according to economic reviews.

Alshaali succeeded previous ambassadors who oversaw a period in which 18 bilateral pacts were concluded across diverse fields the Ministry of Foreign Affairs documented. His background in economic policy is expected to further align diplomatic efforts with trade objectives. The credential presentation marks the official commencement of his tenure in advancing these shared priorities the Emirates News Agency stated.
