The chairman of the UAE Accountability Authority received a number of international officials and heads of anti-corruption agencies on the sidelines of the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice according to the Emirates News Agency. Ahmed Mubarak Al Dhaheri engaged in these meetings to exchange views on enhancing global cooperation in combating corruption and crime. The discussions also covered sharing best practices and strengthening bilateral ties in accountability matters.

As the host of the 15th edition of the congress in Abu Dhabi the UAE welcomed delegates from more than 110 nations to the event that ran from September 26 to October 1 2026 Khaleej Times reported. The gathering described as the largest in the congress’s history with over 5100 participants focused on issues including AI-enabled crime and anti-corruption efforts. Minister of Justice Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi was elected president of the congress.

Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index gave the UAE a score of 69 ranking it as the highest in the MENA region. The index highlights the country’s strong institutions in public sector integrity. This standing supports the UAE’s prominent role in hosting and leading the UN congress on crime and justice.

The congress culminated in the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Declaration which sets a roadmap for the next five years in crime prevention and the rule of law a UNODC statement indicated. Al Dhaheri’s meetings aligned with this broader objective by fostering specific partnerships. These interactions demonstrate the UAE’s commitment to multilateral approaches in addressing transnational threats.

The UAE Accountability Authority plays a central role in overseeing compliance and investigating corruption cases within federal entities. Its chairman’s engagements at such international forums help in aligning national strategies with global standards. Additional context from the event shows emphasis on protecting people and the planet through effective criminal justice systems.

The preparatory process for the congress included five regional meetings in 2025 that fed into the final agenda according to the Ministry of Justice. This inclusive approach ensured diverse inputs from around the world. The UAE’s presidency of the congress will continue to influence international policy until the next session.
