The Emirates News Agency reported that the two presidents reviewed the fraternal relations between their countries during the telephone conversation. They explored avenues to bolster cooperation across development, economic and investment sectors in line with national priorities for both sides. The discussion aimed to promote prosperity and wellbeing for the peoples of the UAE and Syria.

According to the same agency, the call also covered recent regional developments and their impact on security and stability. The leaders examined the effects of ongoing Iranian actions described as terrorist aggression against the UAE and other nations in the area. These included strikes on civilian targets and infrastructure that the presidents viewed as breaches of national sovereignty, international law and the UN Charter.

The agency noted that this exchange forms part of a series of communications between the UAE and Syrian leadership that began after the transition in Damascus in late 2024. In January 2025, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received another call from Al-Sharaa during which the UAE reaffirmed support for Syrian aspirations for security and stability. A further conversation took place in March 2026 in which the Syrian president condemned Iranian attacks and expressed solidarity with the UAE.

Data from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate sustained humanitarian and developmental assistance to Syria throughout the past two years. This assistance has focused on rebuilding key sectors following years of conflict. The support aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader diplomatic initiatives across the Arab region to foster stability.

Al-Sharaa affirmed the depth of historical ties between the two countries in the April discussion, the Emirates News Agency stated. The Syrian president highlighted mutual interests in advancing economic links that could contribute to reconstruction efforts. Both sides agreed to maintain regular contacts at all levels to follow up on the topics addressed.

Regional analysts have tracked the UAE’s engagement with the new Syrian administration as a key element in Gulf outreach to Damascus. A report by the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington noted increased diplomatic visits and economic memorandums since early 2025. These steps reflect efforts to integrate Syria back into Arab frameworks while addressing common security threats.
