The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre launched the second phase of its Contributions of Muslim Scholars initiative on October 29 2026 in response to directives from Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Emirates News Agency reported. This phase titled Geography Literature and Sociology includes an integrated package of cultural programmes and events designed to highlight the pioneering scientific contributions of Islamic civilisation. The centre stated that the initiative seeks to underscore the civilisational role of Muslim scholars across the ages and their impact on shaping and developing human knowledge through the ages.

An exhibition documenting contributions of Muslim scholars formed a central element of the launch the centre reported with axes dedicated to geography literature and social aspects. The geography section sheds light on works by Muhammad al-Idrisi Ibn Battuta and Zakariya al-Qazwini including his books Wonders of Creation and Strange Things and Monuments of the Lands. Dialogue sessions a visual cultural series and related activities will enrich Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene over the coming period according to organisers.

The launch event brought together several ambassadors to the state representatives of various entities specialists in cultural and knowledge affairs and school students the Emirates News Agency reported. These participants engaged with the displays and discussions that link historical achievements to contemporary understanding. The centre has positioned the mosque complex as a knowledge and civilisational platform through such programming.

The first phase of the initiative which began earlier in 2026 concentrated on astronomy and mathematics a SZGMC assessment found and featured rare manuscripts and instruments including works by Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi and Nasir al-Din al-Tusi. That stage incorporated an interactive multimedia exhibition in the Dome of Peace along with panel discussions that attracted diverse cultural audiences. Building on this foundation the second phase expands the scope to additional disciplines while maintaining the same commitment to accessible educational content.

The project aligns with the UAE’s vision of safeguarding shared human cultural heritage and extends the mission of the Light and Peace Museum at the centre according to official statements. By producing content with national cadres and employing artificial intelligence tools in design the initiative presents historical material in contemporary formats suitable for global viewers. Further episodes and events will continue to explore the legacy of Muslim scholars whose contributions laid foundations for many modern sciences a pattern documented across multiple phases of the programme.

Exhibits remain open to visitors during the mosque’s regular hours from Saturday to Thursday between 9am and 9pm with adjusted Friday timings the centre reported. Organisers expect the combined activities to reach broad segments of the community including students and international guests. The Emirates News Agency noted that such efforts reinforce the mosque’s role as a hub for cultural dialogue and knowledge dissemination.
