The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority carried out 8,870 laboratory examinations on water samples in the first six months of 2026, according to a statement from the utility. Of those, 5,865 samples were processed at the main water quality laboratory while another 3,005 were analysed at laboratories attached to water and desalination stations. Engineer Abdurrahman Bukhalaf, director of the water plants and desalination department at SEWA, said the tests encompassed every phase from production through to distribution. He added that the results verified full conformity with UAE national specifications and standards approved by the World Health Organization.
Comparable figures from the previous year show SEWA examined nearly 19,000 samples across all of 2025, with every test returning safe readings, a Brew News review found. The 2026 first-half total reflects a continued emphasis on monitoring as the emirate’s population and infrastructure expand. SEWA has raised the number of sampling locations across its network to 75 sites to match that growth.
The authority completed more than 70 kilometres of water network extensions, upgrades and replacements in the first quarter of 2026 alone, Big News Network reported. Projects included a 30.5-kilometre distribution system serving the Al Saja’a Industrial Area and the replacement of 20 kilometres of ageing pipelines in Al Nasserya with Glass Reinforced Epoxy materials. Additional work covered 22 kilometres of new lines in Al Mowrrada 6 and a five-kilometre network in Al Juraina.
SEWA supplied more than 1.25 billion gallons of water to support agricultural and strategic projects during the same period, Gulf Today reported. The volume comprised roughly 1.03 billion gallons for wheat farms, 151 million gallons for a dairy operation and 10.7 million gallons for poultry facilities in Mleiha. Further deliveries went to Sharjah Safari and various government initiatives.
Bukhalaf stated in a related announcement that these water provisions advance local food production and environmental objectives across the emirate. The dual focus on quality testing and infrastructure development forms part of SEWA’s wider operational mandate. All 8,870 tests completed by mid-2026 produced results within permitted parameters.
Laboratory equipment at SEWA’s six facilities employs advanced analytical technology for continuous surveillance, the authority’s data shows. No deviations from regulatory limits appeared in any sample. The testing regime operates from the moment desalination begins until water reaches subscriber meters.
