According to the Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed the senior Libyan military official at a formal meeting held in the capital. The discussions covered opportunities to expand cooperation across multiple sectors while reviewing the current situation in Libya and the broader Middle East. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue to support stability in the region. Senior UAE advisors were present throughout the reception and accompanying talks.
The meeting builds on a long history of engagement between Emirati and Libyan leaders that WAM has documented over the past two decades. In 2017, WAM reported that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to discuss counter-terrorism efforts and the push for Libyan unity following the liberation of Benghazi from extremist groups. That encounter underscored the UAE’s consistent position backing the Libyan people’s aspirations for security and development. Similar themes of partnership have appeared in subsequent high-level contacts.
WAM coverage from earlier this year detailed the reception of Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah by UAE officials in July 2026, where conversations focused on economic collaboration and regional peace initiatives. The latest discussion with the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces follows the same pattern of regular coordination. These exchanges have occurred against the backdrop of Libya’s ongoing efforts to unify its institutions after years of fragmentation.
The Libyan Arab Armed Forces have played a significant role in security provision across large parts of the country since 2014, a fact noted in multiple WAM dispatches on Libyan developments. The UAE has provided various forms of support to Libya, including humanitarian assistance, as outlined in statements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Such aid has targeted key areas like healthcare and infrastructure reconstruction in affected regions. Officials on both sides expressed hope that sustained engagement would contribute to positive outcomes.
Attendees at Wednesday’s meeting included key figures from the Presidential Court and other relevant UAE entities, WAM stated. The Libyan delegation conveyed appreciation for the UAE’s role in supporting legitimate aspirations for peace in Libya. Both parties agreed on the value of maintaining open channels for future consultations on matters of shared concern. The encounter concluded with mutual commitments to follow up on the points raised during the talks.
