Abu Dhabi Police received a Belgian delegation at its headquarters this week to discuss enhancing cooperation in the equestrian sector, the Emirates News Agency reported. The meeting brought together senior officers from the force’s mounted unit with Belgian counterparts experienced in cavalry operations. Discussions centered on training methods, horse management and joint programs that could benefit security operations in both countries. The Emirates News Agency said the talks highlighted opportunities for knowledge exchange in areas such as rider preparation and equine care.

The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation figures show the country organised 172 events during the 2025-2026 season, drawing 18,082 riders from 181 countries across endurance, show jumping, dressage and tent pegging disciplines. Endurance events recorded the highest international participation with riders from 72 nationalities. These activities have positioned the UAE as a global hub for the sport, according to federation data. The federation’s secretary-general noted that such growth supports development of riders and infrastructure in line with international standards.

FEI statistics place the UAE among top nations in horse registrations with 2,548 equines recorded in 2026, reflecting a steady increase from previous years particularly in endurance categories. The federation’s annual report indicated that men comprised 61.1 percent of participants while women accounted for 38.9 percent across all events. International Federation for Equestrian Sports data also records consistent organisation of dozens of competitions annually, underscoring the sector’s expansion.

Belgian mounted police maintains a well-regarded cavalry division known for specialised training in dressage, obstacle courses and desensitisation to crowd environments, according to national law enforcement training records. Officers undergo extended preparation following initial police academy instruction, with emphasis on operational readiness for public order and ceremonial duties. European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training assessments have noted the unit’s expertise, which has attracted personnel from neighbouring countries for advanced instruction.

Abu Dhabi Police has integrated its equestrian resources into both security patrols and major public events in recent years, police operational summaries show. The force’s mounted personnel receive ongoing development to align with global best practices in equine handling and rider skills. The meeting with the Belgian delegation forms part of a pattern of international engagements that the authority has pursued to refine these capabilities, the Emirates News Agency added.

The Belgian delegation shared insights into sustainable breeding and veterinary protocols during the session, according to the Emirates News Agency. Both sides explored possibilities for future personnel exchanges and collaborative exercises. Officials from Abu Dhabi Police emphasised the value of such partnerships in elevating mounted unit performance across the region.
