The appointment formalises Alghfeli’s leadership at a centre responsible for planning, managing and operating the emirate’s integrated land, sea and air transport systems. According to an ITC performance report, the centre achieved a 95 percent customer satisfaction and happiness rate in the first half of the year while completing 100 percent of transactions through electronic and digital channels. These outcomes reflect progress across the three core pillars of sustainable mobility, smart mobility and safe mobility.

The ITC report showed that the centre intensified efforts on sustainable mobility during the period by encouraging public transportation use and expanding an integrated network that includes smart, electric and hybrid vehicles along with environmentally friendly buses, bicycles and micro-mobility options such as scooters. Such measures seek to lower environmental impact while improving transport efficiency for residents across Abu Dhabi. The initiatives form part of wider national objectives to promote sustainable development in the transport sector.

In the domain of smart mobility, an ITC assessment found that the centre aims to establish leadership in technology and data management, with its strategy focused on raising the efficiency, comfort and safety of the transportation system while supporting the shift toward self-driving and sustainable options. This approach incorporates modern technology to serve society and streamline operations. The centre’s work in this area aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision for an intelligent and responsive mobility network.

The report indicated that safe mobility activities included the implementation of freight and heavy vehicle control systems to monitor weights, dimensions and compliance with standards as part of the emirate’s traffic safety strategy. In the first half of 2023, the ITC issued 7,600 traffic detour permits to ensure infrastructure works followed the highest health and safety practices under relevant executive regulations. Earlier ITC figures from the first half of 2022 placed the number of road service patrol calls at more than 15,000, with an average response time of 10 minutes for incidents across the emirate.

Alghfeli, who had been serving as acting director general, brings a background in traffic engineering and transport planning to the permanent role. Professional profiles describe his experience in law enforcement-related transport matters and contributions to mobility projects in Abu Dhabi. The Executive Council resolution, as reported by the Emirates News Agency, places him at the helm as the centre advances its digital service delivery and multi-modal integration efforts.

The Integrated Transport Centre functions within Abu Dhabi Mobility, the entity overseeing municipal and transport affairs in the emirate. Its responsibilities encompass traffic management, road safety enhancement and the coordination of various transport modes to support economic and social activity. Ongoing work includes monitoring road networks, managing events to minimise congestion and updating control rooms on a continuous basis.
