The Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance detailed the sixth season of the Future Science Challenge in a statement released through the Emirates News Agency, opening participation to students in grades 4 through 12 at both public and private schools throughout the UAE. The program seeks to strengthen participants’ capabilities in scientific research, innovation and critical thinking through the development and presentation of original projects in various scientific disciplines. A foundation assessment found that past editions have equipped thousands of students with practical skills aligned with national priorities in science and technology education.
According to the foundation’s guidelines, students must form teams or work individually to address real-world problems using the scientific method, with submissions evaluated on criteria including originality, methodology and potential impact. The sixth season maintains an emphasis on fields such as artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability and advanced technology applications, building on the structure that has guided the program since its inception. Foundation figures show that earlier seasons drew participation from a broad cross-section of Emirati and resident students, with many advancing to international competitions.
Prizes for the sixth season include financial awards, certificates of recognition and opportunities for further academic support, the foundation said in its announcement. Top projects will receive cash rewards scaled by category and placement, alongside mentorship from experts in relevant scientific fields. The foundation reported that previous winners have leveraged their involvement to secure university placements and patents for innovative solutions developed during the challenge.
The initiative forms part of the foundation’s broader mandate established in 1999 to promote academic excellence across the UAE, according to official foundation history. A UNESCO regional education report from 2023 placed the UAE among the top GCC performers in STEM enrollment at the secondary level, a trend the Future Science Challenge aims to reinforce through hands-on research experience. Foundation data from the fifth season indicated a 25 percent increase in submissions focused on sustainability topics compared with the prior year.
Registration for the sixth season is open immediately through the foundation’s designated online portal, with deadlines and workshop schedules outlined in the official announcement. The program includes multiple phases, from initial proposal reviews to final exhibitions where students defend their findings before expert panels. In an interview carried by the Emirates News Agency, a foundation spokesperson noted that the challenge continues to evolve in response to emerging scientific priorities while maintaining its core objective of nurturing young researchers.
