The Sharjah Formula Team, affiliated with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, maintained its strong form in the UIM F1H2O World Championship by securing second and third places at the Shanghai Grand Prix. Stefan Arand finished 2.243 seconds behind winner Alec Weckström of Victory Team while Grant Trask crossed the line 4.279 seconds off the pace in a race shortened by challenging conditions on the Huangpu River that saw only nine boats complete the full distance. The Emirates News Agency reported that the result highlighted the Sharjah team’s ability to challenge for top honours against the series’ leading competitors from multiple nations.
Arand’s performance elevated him to the top of the drivers’ championship standings with 60 points. Grant Trask holds second place with 51 points while Alec Weckström and Shaun Torrente sit tied for third on 50 points each. The championship now heads to its decisive final round scheduled for Sharjah in December.
The Sharjah team accumulated sufficient points from the Shanghai round to claim second position in the World Team Championship with a total of 84 points. This places the team in a strong position to contend for the overall title in the remaining events. Team managers have indicated that the consistent results across drivers reflect extensive preparation for the international calendar.
Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Director General of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, stressed that the results obtained by the team at the Shanghai Grand Prix show the high level they have now reached. Al Hosani added that the strong performances of the team drivers together with the team finishing in second place in the general standings act as a motivation to keep on working and to make thorough preparations for the forthcoming competitions. The director’s assessment came as the club continues its longstanding involvement in marine motorsport at the highest level.
The Shanghai Grand Prix formed the latest stop in the UIM-governed series which features boats capable of speeds exceeding 200 kilometres per hour across varied global venues. Previous events in the 2026 season included rounds that tested teams in differing water and weather conditions with varying levels of attrition among the 19 drivers from 13 countries who started the Shanghai weekend. Organisers have noted the event’s role in expanding the sport’s reach in the Asian market.
Alec Weckström completed a weekend sweep by claiming pole position and victory in the first sprint race before dominating the main Grand Prix. Powerboat News reported that the race was interrupted by three yellow-flag periods amid the demanding circuit layout. Grant Trask had earlier featured prominently in the sprint races while the Sharjah squad also advanced its preparations for hosting the season finale at home.
