The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange has integrated with the SWIFT network, the Emirates News Agency reported, enabling more efficient communication with global financial institutions and reducing barriers for cross-border securities transactions. This development forms part of ADX’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and align with international standards for post-trade processing. The integration is anticipated to support faster settlement times and greater transparency, appealing to a broader range of overseas participants.

According to WAM, the move directly strengthens ADX’s global market access by tapping into SWIFT’s established infrastructure that links more than 11,500 banks and financial entities across over 200 countries and territories. A Reuters assessment found that the network facilitates the equivalent of global GDP in transactions every two to three days. ADX officials stated that the partnership will facilitate smoother operations for international investors seeking exposure to Abu Dhabi’s listed companies.

Recent market data from ADX placed the general index at 10,234.76 points on September 25, 2026, reflecting a 0.28 percent gain with trading volume exceeding 88 million shares. Separate figures from local reports put the total market capitalization of ADX-listed firms at approximately Dh2.679 trillion in the preceding session. These metrics underscore the exchange’s growing scale, which the SWIFT connection is positioned to amplify through enhanced international linkages.

SWIFT data shows the cooperative processes an estimated $5 trillion in daily transaction messages, a volume that has drawn regional exchanges including ADX to deepen their involvement. An earlier 2018 agreement between ADX and SWIFT focused on blockchain applications for post-trade efficiency, according to archived reports from The National, setting a foundation for the current full network membership. That collaboration involved multiple central securities depositories exploring distributed ledger technology to cut costs and risks in capital markets.

The integration arrives as ADX continues to attract major international players, with HSBC recently becoming the first global bank to serve as a general clearing member on the exchange, a development Economy Middle East attributed to efforts to broaden clearing access and reduce settlement risks. Such steps have contributed to increased liquidity and trading activity in Abu Dhabi’s capital markets. Industry observers note that standardized messaging via SWIFT complements these advances by streamlining investor onboarding and asset servicing.

Public records from the exchange indicate sustained growth in listed entities and sectoral diversity, spanning energy, banking and real estate, which together draw both regional and overseas capital. The SWIFT affiliation is expected to further elevate ADX’s profile among global custodians and asset managers by providing reliable, secure channels for instruction routing. Officials at the exchange have emphasized that the network membership aligns with Abu Dhabi’s wider strategy to position itself as a competitive financial centre.
