The UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on the sidelines of the assembly, where the two reviewed cooperation between their nations across multiple sectors. They exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments with a focus on the Middle East. WAM reported that both officials emphasised the importance of joint work to promote stability and prosperity in the region.
A separate meeting took place with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, during which Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed highlighted the longstanding partnership between the UAE and Germany. Discussions covered economic ties as well as political coordination on global issues. The Emirates News Agency stated that the conversation also addressed efforts to support peace initiatives in conflict zones.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed additionally sat down with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, according to WAM. The officials explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in trade, investment and cultural exchange. They further deliberated on shared concerns regarding security developments across the broader Middle East area.
The meetings form part of a wider diplomatic engagement by the UAE at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which Reuters noted has drawn leaders to debate conflicts including those in Gaza and Sudan. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed reiterated the UAE’s support for a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during related discussions, a position the state news agency said aligns with longstanding national policy. Additional talks with senior officials from other nations focused on humanitarian concerns and multilateral cooperation.
WAM indicated that these encounters underscore the UAE’s active role in international diplomacy aimed at fostering dialogue among global partners. The foreign minister stressed the need for collective action to tackle ongoing crises, building on the country’s normalisation agreements under the Abraham Accords that Reuters described as having expanded economic and security links since 2020. Such engagements occur as the assembly continues its general debate into late September.
