The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council announced that its RASID laboratory has achieved Gold Certification under the My Green Lab program, which evaluates facilities on 14 categories including energy efficiency, waste minimization and water conservation. Operated jointly with M42, the lab has processed more than 75,000 wastewater samples since becoming operational in 2022 while tracking over 400 chemical and biological indicators to support public health and environmental risk assessment. According to the council, the certification reflects integrated sustainability measures that maintain the facility’s high-throughput capabilities without compromising analytical accuracy or speed.
My Green Lab data shows that laboratories typically consume up to 10 times more energy and four times more water than conventional office spaces, a disparity that the certification process seeks to address through targeted operational changes. A 2025 review by the organization found that commercial labs achieving certification under its updated 2.0 framework report average annual cost savings of approximately $99,000 alongside reductions of 131 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per site. The RASID facility’s Gold level places it among top performers in a network that surpassed 4,500 certified labs across 54 countries by early 2026.
In its statement distributed via the Emirates News Agency, the council described the milestone as advancing RASID’s leadership in sustainable laboratories while reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position in predictive environmental monitoring. The lab employs robotics, artificial intelligence and specialized equipment to analyze wastewater at population scale, generating data that informs proactive government responses to health and security threats. Officials noted that sustainability protocols were embedded throughout procurement, equipment maintenance and daily workflows to meet the program’s independent verification standards.
The My Green Lab Certification, endorsed by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign and recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, requires at least 50 percent staff participation in baseline assessments followed by implementation of recommended improvements within six to nine months. Third-party verification by Impact Laboratories ensures the integrity of results, with Gold status demanding substantial documented gains in resource efficiency. For RASID, this recognition builds on its earlier A2LA accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 and its top-tier global ranking for operational efficiency on the CAP q-probe scale.
Partnerships with M42 have enabled the integration of predictive analytics and heat-mapping tools that complement the lab’s green practices, according to executive director Abdullah Al Muaini at the council. The facility’s unique scope, which combines security, health and environmental testing of wastewater, demanded customized approaches to sustainability that align with both local regulatory priorities and international benchmarks. Council representatives indicated that the certification will guide further enhancements, including expanded use of green chemistry principles in sample preparation.
My Green Lab’s 2025 year-in-review reported that early adopters of its impact estimator tool have quantified measurable returns, with academic sites averaging $20,000 in yearly savings and broader participation reaching more than 10,000 ambassadors in 77 countries. The RASID achievement contributes to regional momentum in the Gulf, where similar facilities are adopting comparable standards to balance innovation with environmental stewardship. The council plans to leverage the certification insights to refine protocols across its central testing operations.
