Dubai Islamic Bank has announced the launch of its Jaywan debit card, extending the national scheme to holders of its current and savings accounts. The bank, recognised as the UAE’s largest Islamic lender, said the card advances the country’s goals for a secure and locally focused payments system. In its statement, DIB emphasised that the product forms part of ongoing efforts to build a resilient national payments infrastructure that benefits both consumers and the wider economy.
According to information published on the DIB website, Jaywan represents the first local debit card accredited by the Central Bank of the UAE. The card delivers an instant, secure and seamless experience for domestic transactions while incorporating chip and PIN technology for enhanced protection. Customers receive the added safeguard of a unique four-digit PIN that only they can access, the bank noted.
A report by Fintech News UAE indicated that similar Jaywan debit cards integrate with mobile banking applications and support tokenised digital wallets. This capability allows for convenient domestic payments without reliance on foreign card networks in many cases. The rollout by DIB follows the recent introduction of the product by First Abu Dhabi Bank and Commercial Bank of Dubai, according to multiple banking sector updates from July 2026.
The Jaywan national card scheme, managed by Al Etihad Payments and supported by the Central Bank of the UAE, seeks to enhance financial inclusion while lowering transaction costs, The National reported. Launched initially in 2024, the programme enables banks to issue debit, prepaid and eventually credit cards under a unified domestic framework. Data from the UAE Banks Federation shows participating institutions have started phased issuance to minimise customer disruption during the transition.
DIB’s move adds to the momentum of local payment solutions across the country, where the scheme has gained traction among major financial institutions. The debit card links directly to the user’s account for immediate deduction of purchases and withdrawals at compatible terminals and ATMs. Customers with eligible accounts can request the card through the DIB mobile application or by visiting any branch, the lender stated.
The initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader digital transformation objectives in the financial services sector, according to reports from IBS Intelligence. Central Bank of the UAE oversight has driven steady growth in domestic payment volumes as more residents adopt national schemes. DIB has made the card available immediately to qualifying customers and continues to expand acceptance across its ATM network.
