The UAE Embassy in Mozambique said in a statement that Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, participated in the opening of the 61st edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair, known as FACIM 2026, heading a large group of business leaders from various sectors. During his address at the event, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan stated, “The relationship between the UAE and Mozambique is witnessing growing momentum, and that the next stage holds great potential to deepen the commercial and investment partnership and turn it into tangible projects that achieve long-term value for both countries.” The participation reflects the excellent bilateral relations and a shared desire to foster mutually beneficial investment partnerships, according to the embassy.

According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan conveyed greetings from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Mozambican President Daniel Chapo during a meeting on the sidelines of the fair. The two officials reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in economic, trade and investment domains along with sectors such as renewable energy, oil and gas, and logistics. President Chapo welcomed the high-level visit and reiterated Mozambique’s interest in further developing its partnership with the UAE.

A UAE-Mozambique Business Roundtable held in Abu Dhabi in January 2026 reported that bilateral trade reached approximately $1.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 57.8 percent year-on-year increase. The roundtable highlighted untapped potential in agriculture, port expansion and resource development as areas where closer collaboration could yield significant gains. These figures underscore the momentum the current trade fair participation seeks to accelerate through direct business engagements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan had met President Chapo earlier in March 2026 in Maputo, where discussions similarly focused on strengthening ties in priority industries and expressed appreciation for Mozambique’s supportive positions on regional matters. Such repeated high-level contacts demonstrate a consistent trajectory of deepening diplomatic and commercial relations between the two nations over recent years. Officials from both sides have repeatedly affirmed their commitment to converting shared interests into concrete projects.

The UAE Embassy in Mozambique added that the delegation’s presence at FACIM 2026 provides a platform for more than 60 companies to identify joint venture prospects and explore market opportunities in southern Africa. This scale of private-sector involvement builds on previous ministerial visits and roundtables that have steadily elevated trade volumes. Further agreements emerging from the fair are anticipated to span infrastructure, energy and agribusiness sectors.
