The Emirates News Agency reported that President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan dispatched a written message of congratulations to Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan each sent similar communications to both the Chadian president and Prime Minister Allamaye Halina. The messages conveyed best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the Chadian people while expressing hope for the further strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Similar greetings from the UAE leadership have become an established annual practice that underscores sustained diplomatic engagement. The communications arrived on the exact anniversary of Chad’s emergence as a sovereign state. They also reflected mutual interest in advancing cooperation across multiple sectors according to the state news agency.

Chad marks its Independence Day each year on August 11 to commemorate its separation from French colonial administration in 1960 according to historical accounts published by Britannica. The date became a national holiday that features official ceremonies and public reflections on the country’s post-independence path. The occasion provides an opportunity for international partners to reaffirm their support for Chad’s development objectives.

Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Chad date back to 1973 when the two countries established formal ties the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs records show. Chad maintains an embassy in Abu Dhabi along with a consulate general in Dubai while the UAE operates an embassy in N’Djamena. These institutional links have facilitated expanded collaboration in recent years across economic humanitarian and security domains.

Bilateral trade between the UAE and Chad reached 1.9 billion dollars with growth exceeding 30 percent in the preceding year Reuters reported in November 2025. UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi highlighted the robust partnership during a dedicated UAE-Chad Trade and Investment Forum held in Abu Dhabi. Negotiations for a formal bilateral trade agreement were on track for possible conclusion before the end of that year according to the minister.

The UAE contributed 150 million dollars to Chad’s 2017-2021 national development plan through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs website states. Additional steps have included military cooperation memorandums energy and mining agreements plus humanitarian shipments such as food aid and medical supplies dispatched in response to regional needs. In 2023 the UAE opened a dedicated foreign aid coordination office in Chad further embedding development assistance within the bilateral framework.
