The National Academy for Childhood Development announced the winter launch of its Generation 71 programme in partnership with the Ministry of Family, according to an Abu Dhabi Media Office statement issued December 17, 2025. The initiative follows a summer edition that engaged more than 322 children from across the country. Sessions run through December 18 in Abu Dhabi and from December 22 to 25 in the Al Dhafra region. The free Arabic-language programme offers gender-separated workshops and awards certificates upon completion.
Hessa Abdulrahman Tahlak, assistant undersecretary for the development sector at the Ministry of Family, described the joint project as essential for building future generations. “Our collaboration with the National Academy for Childhood Development is vital for delivering qualitative programmes as part of our comprehensive efforts to cultivate capable generations, deeply rooted in Emirati values and national identity, and empowered to effectively lead the future,” she said. Tahlak added that the effort positions the family as a cornerstone of national development while supporting parents in instilling values and culture.
Her Excellency Dr Meera AlKaabi, acting president of the National Academy for Childhood Development, connected the programme to broader national goals. “Generation 71 reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting Emirati families and strengthening their educational role, through meaningful content that reinforces national values and helps shape a conscious, responsible Emirati child,” AlKaabi stated. The approach matches the UAE vision that prioritises investment in children and families to secure sustainable development, according to the academy head.
The programme takes its name from the UAE’s founding year of 1971 to honour the nation’s legacy while preparing future contributors, the Abu Dhabi Media Office release indicated. It divides into two tracks with the Nash’ Al Dar track serving ages 6 to 10 and the Al Shabab Al Bani track for ages 11 to 14. Interactive sessions address national identity, positive behaviour and practical life skills.
Girls in the programme engage with heritage through preparation of traditional Emirati dishes, safety instruction and a field visit covering majlis etiquette, customary dress and hospitality standards, according to the announcement. Boys focus on building responsibility via workshops on etiquette, cultural performances such as Al-Youla and Al-Razfa, falconry techniques, Arabic coffee preparation and basic home maintenance. These activities seek to reinforce independence and cultural awareness among participants.
The National Academy for Childhood Development was established by law in 2023 under Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi to deliver training on child care and development, the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority has reported. The academy additionally offers an 18-month accredited vocational diploma featuring 25 modules across knowledge, skills and practical stages. Such programmes complement the Generation 71 initiative by extending support to families and professionals involved in childhood development nationwide.
