The UAE president extended birthday greetings to his Uzbek counterpart, wishing him good health, success and stability for Uzbekistan and its people, the Uzbek presidency reported. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of the strategic partnership between their countries. They highlighted the accelerated implementation of several major joint projects as evidence of deepening ties.
The presidents agreed to continue an active political dialogue at all levels and to further broaden cooperation across trade, investment, culture and humanitarian fields, the statement continued. They also exchanged views on topical regional issues and other matters of shared interest. This phone call follows a pattern of regular high-level contacts maintained by the two countries in recent years.
UAE Ministry of Economy figures show that non-oil bilateral trade expanded by 104 percent in 2022 to reach $993 million compared with $487 million a year earlier. The growth built on an earlier 113 percent increase in non-oil trade volume recorded between 2018 and 2019, according to UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs data. A bilateral investment treaty signed in 2007 has been in force since 2011 and has supported the expansion of economic relations.
Cooperation has focused on sectors including renewable energy, agriculture, digital infrastructure and tourism, priorities identified in multiple agreements between the two sides. Uzbekistan has attracted Emirati investment to support its economic modernisation programme. The UAE has regarded Uzbekistan as a strategic partner for diversifying trade routes into Central Asia.
Both countries engage within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, where the UAE holds dialogue partner status, facilitating discussions on regional stability and economic matters. Earlier summits, such as one held in Abu Dhabi, produced understandings on sustainability and food security collaboration. Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Uzbekistan were established in 1992 and have since developed into a comprehensive partnership.
