The Mubadala Foundation and the UAE Handball Federation announced a new collaboration on Tuesday to establish the Youth Handball League, which will provide structured competitive opportunities for young players. According to a statement distributed by the Emirates News Agency, the initiative focuses on age-group categories to identify promising athletes for national teams. The federation indicated that the league will integrate with existing development pathways to strengthen the sport’s grassroots base.

Mubadala Foundation’s support includes resources for coaching education, facility improvements and event organization, a joint announcement stated. Foundation representatives highlighted how such investments contribute to youth health and character building through organized sports. This partnership builds on Mubadala’s established role in regional youth athletic programs.

The UAE youth handball team has demonstrated notable progress in recent competitions, including qualification for the 2027 World Championship after finishing second at the Asian Men’s Youth event. A UAE National Olympic Committee report detailed the team’s exposure to varied international styles during the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. Such achievements reflect the impact of consistent investment in youth development programs.

Industry analysis points to rising engagement in handball among Emirati youth, supported by expanded infrastructure and official promotion of diverse sports. A sector outlook from 6Wresearch attributed growth in the handball market to government initiatives encouraging organized youth activities. These developments have increased demand for equipment and competitive leagues nationwide.

The current Youth Handball League season features 13 teams following the addition of Al Dhafra, with the competition schedule redrawn in August ahead of a September start, the UAE Handball Federation reported. Opening matches included encounters between established clubs such as Al Nasr and Al Ain. The federation’s competitions committee oversaw adjustments to accommodate the expanded field while maintaining fair scheduling.

School-level handball events have drawn substantial involvement, with one Ajman tournament featuring 700 student-athletes from 40 teams across the UAE, local organizers reported. These gatherings offer early competitive experience that feeds into national leagues. Combined with the Mubadala partnership, such activities aim to broaden the talent pool for future senior teams.

Federation president Saud Saleh has stressed the value of international exposure in building a strong youth pipeline, according to statements following recent tournaments. The partnership with Mubadala Foundation is expected to enhance technical and physical preparation for young players. Officials from both organizations expressed commitment to sustaining momentum in handball development.
