The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs condemned the Iranian attack on two UAE oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement issued the day after the July 14, 2026 incident, the ministry described the strike as a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law. It expressed Jordan’s absolute solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and voiced full support for all measures the UAE may take to protect its sovereignty, security and the safety of its citizens. The ministry additionally extended condolences to India over the death of one Indian crew member in the attack and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The United Arab Emirates reported that Iranian cruise missiles struck the two national tankers in the southern lane of the strait within Omani territorial waters. UAE officials stated that fires aboard both vessels were quickly brought under control with no additional information immediately available on the full extent of damage. The UAE vowed a response to the incident, which it characterized as a serious threat to global energy security and maritime navigation.

This latest event prompted parallel condemnations across the region. The Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi labeled a comparable Iranian drone attack on an ADNOC tanker in May as blatant and a serious violation of international laws, conventions and resolutions on freedom of navigation. He urged the international community to take firm action to protect maritime security, shipping lanes and to hold those responsible accountable, according to the Petra News Agency. Al Yamahi further reiterated the parliament’s full solidarity with the UAE in preserving its security, sovereignty and stability.

The Strait of Hormuz represents a vital artery for global oil transportation. Reports from energy agencies place the proportion of world oil trade passing through the waterway at approximately one fifth. Repeated incidents in the area have raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies and increases in shipping costs. Maritime security groups have tracked a rise in such events in recent years amid heightened regional tensions.

The Jordanian stance comes amid broader Arab condemnation of actions affecting the UAE. Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar have also denounced the Iranian attack on the U.A.E. tanker, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Such unified positions highlight shared concerns over threats to shipping in the strategic strait.

In its statement, the Jordanian ministry emphasized the need to avoid any actions that could further destabilize the region. It positioned the condemnation as part of Amman’s commitment to regional cooperation and security. The development follows a pattern of diplomatic support among Gulf and Arab states when such incidents occur.
