The memorandum of understanding signed between Etihad Airways and ROX Motor establishes a framework to examine ways the national airline and the luxury new energy vehicle manufacturer could work together on integrated services. According to the Emirates News Agency, the agreement focuses on identifying potential areas for joint development that align with both organizations’ operations in Abu Dhabi. Officials from the two entities formalized the pact as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the emirate’s position in the transport sector.

ROX Motor established its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi in November 2025 through a partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, an Arabian Business report stated. The company has pursued multiple agreements with local entities to build capabilities in manufacturing, materials and technology as it targets 300,000 units of annual production capacity by 2030. Emirates News Agency figures show these steps support the UAE’s Operation 300Bn industrial growth program.

Etihad Airways maintains a network spanning more than 90 destinations and has prioritized enhancements to passenger connectivity and sustainability across its services. The memorandum with ROX Motor marks one of several mobility-focused agreements the carrier has entered in recent years. Both parties will conduct a series of exploratory meetings to assess specific projects under the agreement, the Emirates News Agency added.

In May 2025 ROX Motor formalized collaborations with Borouge on advanced polyolefin materials for vehicle components and with other UAE organizations on AI-driven systems and design initiatives, according to separate WAM announcements. These partnerships emphasize recyclable materials, lightweight composites and real-world performance testing for urban, desert and outdoor applications. The approach integrates sustainability targets with functional design for new energy vehicles.

The Emirates News Agency noted that the latest memorandum reflects broader trends in the UAE transport industry toward seamless end-to-end journey solutions. ROX Motor’s existing regional activities include development of all-terrain electric models and after-sales infrastructure across the Middle East and North Africa. Further outcomes from the Etihad agreement will be detailed once the exploratory phase concludes.
