The World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi 2026 will feature community events designed to let residents and visitors experience the championship atmosphere. These activities are set for November 21 on Hudayriyat Island, according to details released by organizers through the Emirates News Agency on October 15, 2026. The programme centres on the Hudayriyat Next Gen Tri for ages 4 to 16 and the Hudayriyat Community Run with options ranging from untimed 1-kilometre and 3-kilometre fun runs to timed 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre races. Modon, the event host, said participants would cross the same finish line used by world-title contenders.

The Next Gen Tri will provide age-appropriate distances in swim, bike and run segments across six categories plus a junior relay for teams of two or three, World Triathlon figures show. It seeks to deliver an accessible entry point to multisport for young athletes on a major international stage. The community run targets all abilities and ages with family-focused untimed segments and competitive timed distances. Registration for both is open via dedicated online platforms established by the organizing committee.

More than 4,000 athletes from around the world are expected to compete for titles across six disciplines during the November 13-22 programme, a World Triathlon assessment found. The schedule includes duathlon, cross triathlon, cross duathlon, aquathlon, long distance triathlon and aquabike events along with the integrated World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi on the first weekend. This marks the initial staging of the multisport championships in the Middle East and will offer Olympic qualification points through the sprint-distance championship series races.

His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, highlighted the significance of combining the elite and community programmes. “Hosting the Modon World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi 2026 alongside the World Triathlon Multisport Championships 2026 on Hudayriyat Island reflects Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global sports destination and the confidence of international federations in its capabilities,” Al Awani said. He added that the emirate values its partnership with World Triathlon in delivering events that inspire the community and promote active lifestyles.

World Triathlon President Antonio F. Arimany thanked local partners for aligning the championship series with the multisport event. “I want to thank our Abu Dhabi stakeholders, particularly Abu Dhabi Sports Council, for their commitment and support in helping bring the World Triathlon Championship Series back to Abu Dhabi and alongside one of our biggest events of the year,” Arimany stated. The joint hosting creates a special platform for age-group athletes to share venues with the sport’s top competitors, he noted in the announcement.

The championships will also advance sustainability goals with Modon targeting gold-level certification under the World Triathlon Sustainable Event framework. A beach clean-up on Hudayriyat Island forms part of the environmental programme, according to the organizing body’s statement. Additional social activities, concerts at Surf Abu Dhabi and use of the soon-to-open Velodrome Abu Dhabi will enhance the championship village experience throughout the 10 days.
