The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development participated in the World Urban Forum in Cairo where it presented its contributions toward sustainable urban initiatives in developing nations. According to a WAM report the fund outlined its 2025 financing activities which focused on sectors including energy transportation and water infrastructure. ADFD officials engaged with global counterparts to exchange insights on aligning development aid with urban resilience priorities.
The 13 projects financed last year carried a total value of AED 2.2 billion a figure that reflects targeted support for regions facing rapid urban growth. The fund has prioritised initiatives that incorporate environmental considerations into city planning frameworks. This engagement at the international gathering allowed ADFD to display outcomes from prior urban development undertakings.
ADFD data shows its cumulative development financing reached AED 216.5 billion by the end of 2024 according to the organisation’s published annual report. The fund established in 1971 has extended support to more than 90 countries with an emphasis on Arab and African partners. Such long-term financing has addressed infrastructure deficits that accompany urban expansion in beneficiary states.
Representatives at the Cairo forum emphasised schemes that combine concessional loans with climate adaptation components for municipal services. One area of focus involved enhancements to public transport systems in growing cities. These projects support United Nations objectives for inclusive and sustainable urban spaces.
Officials noted that ADFD assistance typically includes technical cooperation to strengthen local implementation capabilities. The model has proven effective in ensuring sustained benefits from completed urban works. Forum participants examined scalable approaches that advance Sustainable Development Goal 11 on cities and communities.
The World Urban Forum organised by UN-Habitat convenes policymakers and experts to address global urbanisation challenges. ADFD’s involvement builds upon its record of participation in similar multilateral events over recent years. The fund continues to pursue collaborative opportunities that extend the reach of its development programmes.
