The Ministry of Interior sent a delegation headed by Brigadier Juma Suwaidan director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police to the three-day gathering of international experts focused on enhancing road safety through improved data and analysis the Emirates News Agency reported. The team included Colonel Engineer Abdullah Ghaleb Al Falasi from Dubai Police Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Amna Mohammed Al Saadi a faculty member at the Police College and observer member of the group Dr. Engineer Sumaya Al Neyadi from the Integrated Transport Centre and First Lieutenant Fatima Al Hammadi. This participation reflects ongoing efforts to align UAE practices with global standards in traffic safety.
According to a Ministry of Interior announcement the meeting convened leading specialists to discuss advancements in road safety data collection and analytical techniques that support evidence-based policies worldwide. The UAE has been an active contributor to such forums since formally joining the International Road Safety Data and Analysis Group in recent years through an agreement with the International Transport Forum. Officials emphasised that such engagement helps refine national strategies and contributes to broader sustainable development objectives.
Ministry of Interior figures show that road traffic fatalities in the UAE declined by 74 percent between 2011 and 2025 due to a comprehensive framework incorporating effective governance advanced legislation smart enforcement powered by artificial intelligence infrastructure improvements and widespread awareness campaigns. This reduction has been highlighted in multiple international presentations including a high-level United Nations session earlier in 2026. The progress aligns with national goals to rank among the world’s top countries in road safety under the We the UAE 2031 vision.
World Health Organization data indicates that approximately 1.19 million people die annually in road traffic crashes globally with the rate having fallen by about 21 percent between 2011 and 2025 despite a substantial increase in vehicles on roads. The IRTAD group supports member states in standardising data to track progress toward the global target of halving road deaths and serious injuries by 2030. UAE representatives used the Paris sessions to exchange methodologies on data handling and safety indicators.
The Federal Traffic Council which represented the ministry at the event coordinates domestic initiatives including recent unified GCC traffic awareness activities themed around pedestrian safety. Participation in the October meeting builds on earlier engagements such as an International Transport Forum session the previous year where the UAE discussed smart transportation systems and driver training. Such international forums enable the sharing of best practices that can be adapted to local conditions.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Amna Mohammed Al Saadi’s role as an observer member within the group facilitates continuous knowledge transfer between UAE institutions and international counterparts. The delegation’s involvement underscores the ministry’s focus on scientific research and precise metrics to drive policy decisions. Ongoing collaboration with global bodies is expected to support further reductions in traffic incidents across the country.
