The UAE Horse Racing Authority announced that 88 horses took part in the third round of trial races held at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Wednesday. The event featured multiple races over 1,000 metres and included both purebred Arabian and thoroughbred competitors, many of which were making their first appearances of the new season. Rashid Al Balushi, a member of the Stewards Committee at the UAE Horse Racing Authority, noted that strong participation across the early rounds demonstrates the effectiveness of these trials in building equine readiness for upcoming competitions.

According to the Emirates Racing Authority, the trials allow trainers and jockeys to evaluate horse performance in a controlled race setting while fostering cooperation among owners and participants. Earlier rounds this season drew between 40 and 50 horses each, setting a foundation that culminated in the larger third-round field. The authority has scheduled these weekly events to align with international racing standards and support the overall growth of the sport in the UAE.

WAM reported that the third round built directly on the successes of prior trials, with several debutants showing strong form that could translate to the main racing calendar. The races provide essential gate experience and competitive exposure, particularly for younger horses entering the circuit this year. Organisers emphasised that consistent engagement from stakeholders has contributed to the smooth execution of the series so far.

Figures from Salary Sport show that Meydan Racecourse will offer more than £24.8 million in total prize money across 28 races during the season, providing substantial incentives for participants. The Dubai World Cup, a flagship event that follows these preparatory trials, carries a purse of $12 million and ranks among the richest races globally. Such financial backing has helped establish the UAE as a leading destination for high-level horse racing.

The authority’s statement highlighted how the trial system identifies promising talent early while ensuring horses are fully prepared for the demands of the Dubai Racing Carnival. Several competitors from the third round are expected to advance to graded stakes races in the coming months. Al Balushi added that the positive results observed reinforce the value of maintaining a structured preparatory phase before the main season begins.

Meydan’s state-of-the-art facilities have supported these trials by offering safe and professional conditions for all involved. The venue regularly hosts both local and international horses, contributing to the depth of competition seen in the third round. Data compiled by the Emirates Racing Authority indicates that participation levels have risen steadily compared with equivalent periods in previous seasons.
