The philanthropic organisation serving as Dubai Health’s giving arm has channeled the resources into direct patient support programs that cover treatment expenses for families unable to afford specialised care. This support has been instrumental in ensuring that children receive timely and comprehensive medical attention at leading facilities in the emirate. The foundation’s focus on paediatric cancer aligns with its broader mission to advance healthcare accessibility across the community.

Al Jalila Foundation allocates AED19.25 million to support cancer treatment for 297 children since 2015 the organisation said in the statement that outlined how the funding has made a tangible difference in the lives of the young patients and their families over the years. By covering costs associated with chemotherapy surgery and follow-up care the allocation has reduced the economic stress on households. The initiative forms part of the foundation’s A’awen programme which has grown substantially in scope since its inception.

According to the foundation’s 2025 impact report its child fund has since benefited 320 children with investments reaching AED27 million in a single period. This expansion demonstrates the increasing demand and response to paediatric health challenges in the region. The report also notes support for a larger number of adult patients bringing the total beneficiaries to 1,780 in the reviewed timeframe.

Dr. Amer Al Zarooni CEO of Al Jalila Foundation said “The generosity of donors enabled us to provide care to 650 cancer patients over the past year with contributions exceeding AED43 million through the ‘A’awen’ programme.” The executive’s remarks came as the foundation launched new campaigns to sustain momentum in cancer support. Such statements emphasise the critical role of private contributions in supplementing public health services.

Partnerships with local and international entities have helped the foundation amplify its impact in cancer research and treatment a foundation assessment found. These collaborations have facilitated the development of advanced facilities including the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital set to become a regional center of excellence. Foundation data shows that donations have been key to equipping the hospital with state-of-the-art technology.

The Al Jalila Foundation continues to encourage community participation through various donation channels to maintain these vital programs. Its work has contributed to long-term improvements in survival rates for childhood cancer in the UAE according to health sector assessments. Ongoing efforts include integrating research findings into clinical practice to further enhance patient outcomes.
