The Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Development reviewed the second phase of the Agentic AI Project during its latest session, according to the Emirates News Agency. Discussions centred on expanding the use of autonomous AI models capable of executing tasks and supporting decision-making across federal entities. Council members examined implementation timelines and integration challenges while aligning the project with national priorities for digital transformation. The review builds directly on earlier phases that introduced initial AI agents for procurement, tax auditing, customer support and technical assistance.
Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for the Agentic AI Project, has outlined a strategic directive to transform 50 percent of government operations, procedures and services to Agentic AI models within two years. A government workshop in June 2026 attended by 600 officials from the Presidential Court and Ministry of Cabinet Affairs detailed four implementation stages ranging from readiness assessments to full-scale rollout. The approach aims to boost operational efficiency, improve output quality and allow employees to focus on higher-value responsibilities. Al Gergawi also launched an internal award to recognise impactful AI agent development within his ministry.
Training forms a cornerstone of the initiative, with the UAE Cabinet approving a programme to prepare 80,000 federal employees across leadership, technical, specialist and general workforce categories. The effort, developed with national universities and international technology companies, ties successful completion to performance evaluations and promotions. Haitham Al Rais, Secretary-General of the National Committee for the Agentic AI Project, presented a ministry-specific plan targeting 75 percent conversion of operations, services and specialised functions. Such capacity building seeks to accelerate task completion, strengthen data reliability and support evidence-based policymaking.
The project operates under the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which according to government projections could add AED 335 billion to the national economy while positioning the country as a global AI hub. The strategy, launched in 2017, sets objectives across eight areas including talent development, research capability and sector-wide adoption in transport, health, education and environment. Recent advancements include the rollout of 32 specialised AI advisers that analyse policies, assess multi-dimensional impacts and connect proposals to global best practices before Cabinet review. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated that the system works with ministers 24 hours a day to follow up on decisions and their implementation.
Implementation of the second phase incorporates lessons from the first cohort of AI agents launched in May 2026, which focused on streamlining procurement, enhancing tax compliance, improving customer happiness and resolving technical issues. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, leads the track on AI technologies and data infrastructure that underpins these systems. Secure governance frameworks and cybersecurity standards guide all deployments to protect confidentiality and meet national requirements. The Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Development reviews Second Phase of Agentic AI Project forms part of ongoing efforts to redefine government service delivery.
Federal entities have received clear roles under a governance framework approved earlier in 2026, ensuring coordinated progress across ministries and authorities. The broader transformation aligns with Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming the world’s first fully AI-native government by 2027 through investments exceeding AED 13 billion in digital infrastructure. Continuous performance assessments will determine adjustments before wider rollout, maintaining focus on measurable improvements in service speed and accuracy. Officials continue to monitor outcomes to refine the integration of Agentic AI across remaining government functions.
