The Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development carried out an awareness campaign titled “Protect Your Products from Counterfeiting” as part of its ongoing work to strengthen the business environment and safeguard intellectual property rights in the emirate according to WAM. The Commercial Control and Protection Department led field visits to 350 commercial establishments during which operators were educated on associated risks of trading counterfeit products relevant laws and regulations and steps required for compliance. The campaign achieved a 95 percent satisfaction rate reflecting businesses’ appreciation for the guidance that helps them avoid financial penalties.

WAM reported that the initiative encouraged business owners to report promoters of counterfeit goods through the department’s official channels contributing to a reduction in the phenomenon and enhanced trademark protection across Ras Al Khaimah. Faisal Abdullah Alyoon Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department stated that the department would keep up its inspection campaigns. “The Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development continues to intensify inspection campaigns to detect and confiscate counterfeit goods as part of its ongoing efforts to protect intellectual property rights and ensure consumer safety from harmful products” Alyoon said.

These awareness activities build on prior enforcement in which the department addressed 937 consumer complaints throughout 2025 and resolved 95 percent of the cases the Khaleej Times reported. Of those complaints 28 concerned counterfeit products with registered trademarks prompting immediate action by inspection teams. The teams confiscated 666255 counterfeit items from 71 shops and commercial outlets with an estimated market value of Dh31048729.

The department has described the campaigns as part of sustained efforts to enhance market safety protect consumer rights and ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing trademarks. It has noted that counterfeit goods pose risks to consumers and harm the reputation and competitiveness of legitimate businesses. Officials have urged consumers and businesses alike to report any violations or suspected counterfeit products in Ras Al Khaimah.

Similar drives in Abu Dhabi saw authorities seize counterfeit and non-compliant goods valued at more than Dh1.8 million during 2025 according to regional reporting. The Ras Al Khaimah approach combines education with enforcement to address both immediate violations and longer-term awareness among commercial operators. This method supports the broader UAE focus on intellectual property as a pillar of economic integrity.
