The UAE Ministry of Defence announced that the air force responded to an unmanned aerial vehicle detected over the country’s territorial waters approaching from Iran. The ministry stated that the armed forces remain on a high state of readiness to address any potential threats. Air defence systems continue to monitor and safeguard the country’s airspace around the clock according to the statement carried by the Emirates News Agency.

The Ministry of Defence urged the public to rely exclusively on official sources for information and to refrain from circulating rumours or inaccurate information. This latest development comes as the UAE has faced repeated aerial threats from Iran throughout 2026. Reuters reported in May that the UAE’s air defences engaged missile and drone threats originating from Iran leading to flight diversions across the region.

According to the May 4 Reuters dispatch the UAE intercepted three Iranian missiles over its territorial waters with a fourth crashing into the sea. The attacks prompted a fire at a key energy facility in Fujairah injuring three people and disrupting air traffic with multiple inbound flights diverted to Oman. The UAE foreign ministry described those incidents as a serious escalation and reserved the right to respond.

Kurdistan 24 reported that the country has been targeted by more than 2,800 missiles and drones from Iran since the outbreak of broader regional hostilities. The scale of such threats has required sustained vigilance from UAE air defence units which include both ground systems and fighter aircraft. The latest Monday response aligns with that pattern of intercepting projectiles before they reach populated or critical areas.

The Ministry of Defence has issued similar statements in prior incidents stressing that audible explosions often result from successful interceptions by air defence systems. No additional details on the specific fate of the UAV were released in the announcement. Officials have repeatedly called for residents to follow public safety procedures issued during such alerts.
