The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is advancing a project to replace ageing water pipes in the Al Baradi 7 area of Khorfakkan, with the work covering a total of 6,000 metres of network. SEWA has already completed replacement on 2,278 metres, swapping out AC pipes for more durable GRE alternatives that support improved performance. The initiative aligns with the authority’s strategy to strengthen water distribution systems across Khorfakkan while addressing long-term sustainability needs in the growing eastern Sharjah region.

Engineer Saud Abdulaziz, director of SEWA’s Khorfakkan department, said the project forms part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to modernise water networks and improve their operational efficiency. He added, “Replacing ageing pipes will enhance network reliability, reduce the likelihood of faults and leaks, and improve the efficiency of water transmission and distribution.” This will help ensure continuity of water supplies and enhance the network’s readiness to meet the area’s current and future needs.

According to SEWA, work on the Al Baradi 7 upgrade is progressing according to the established timeline, with full completion scheduled for the end of October 2026. The authority has positioned the project as an important addition to local water infrastructure that will reduce potential disruptions for residents and businesses. Such upgrades form one element in SEWA’s continued focus on modernising distribution systems throughout the emirate.

In a parallel water security initiative in Khorfakkan, SEWA is constructing two new reservoirs at the SEWA 1 and SEWA 2 stations, each offering a storage capacity of 2 million gallons at a total cost of AED 28.23 million. The authority indicated the reservoirs are set to enter service by the end of 2026, ahead of the contractual March 2027 date, which will effectively double storage at the stations. Engineer Saud Abdulaziz explained that the development will increase network flexibility to handle rising demand while supporting supply continuity under varying conditions.

SEWA completed a separate 1.35 million-gallon strategic water tank in Khorfakkan’s Al Haray residential area in May 2026, built to top technical standards to serve expanding residential, commercial and industrial zones. Rashid Al Kabori, deputy director of the Khorfakkan department at the time, stated the tank would reinforce water security, sustainability and reliability for both existing users and future developments. The project finished ahead of schedule, underscoring the efficiency of the authority’s engineering teams.

The authority has executed extensive water network expansions across Sharjah in recent years, including installation of 115 kilometres of pipelines during 2024 to serve new residential and commercial areas, according to SEWA announcements. Related efforts in locations such as Al Qutainah, Kalba and other districts have involved investments exceeding AED 100 million in some cases, with pipelines constructed from high-durability materials resistant to pressure and damage. These programmes respond to urban growth and rising consumption while maintaining service quality across the emirate.
