The first consignment arrived in Kathmandu under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reaffirming the UAE’s solidarity with the Himalayan nation. Ambassador Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased while wishing injured individuals a quick recovery. He stated that the shipment represents the initial phase of the UAE’s humanitarian response with further aid expected soon.

This assistance reflects the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Nepal, Al Nuaimi said. The ambassador highlighted that the UAE’s humanitarian approach is rooted in principles of human solidarity and compassion. Aid is provided without distinction based on religion, race, nationality or background, he added.

Nepal police reported that 359 people had died in the floods and landslides with dozens more missing. The disaster heavily impacted districts such as Rasuwa and Nuwakot where infrastructure including roads, bridges and hydropower projects sustained severe damage. Rescue operations continue as authorities assess the full extent of the destruction according to local officials.

The delivery is part of a US$10 million aid allocation announced earlier this week by the UAE Aid Agency. Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Amiri, the agency’s chairman, emphasised the UAE’s commitment to leading urgent global humanitarian responses. Teams are coordinating with Nepali authorities and international partners to ensure effective distribution of the assistance.

A report at the time by The National placed UAE assistance after the 2015 earthquake at more than 230 tonnes of relief materials along with millions of dirhams in donations. The latest effort builds on this history of support during times of crisis. Al Nuaimi thanked the Nepal government and relevant agencies for their cooperation in receiving the consignment.

The UAE Aid Agency noted that its personnel are on the ground working to address immediate needs of affected communities including women, men and children. The $10 million package will help fund ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the coming weeks. Coordination with global humanitarian organisations forms a key part of the operation the agency reported.
