The General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police conducted a series of awareness training courses on traffic safety rules and guidelines for security guards at GEMS Education schools according to a statement from the force. The programme reached 38 schools and benefited more than 133 participants as part of efforts to prepare staff for managing school zones effectively. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police highlighted that the initiative aligns with the force strategy to boost road safety in educational settings while strengthening preparedness among those responsible for student protection inside and outside premises.
Bin Suwaidan explained that the training addressed multiple areas including the management and organisation of traffic flow in front of schools during peak hours and procedures for safe student boarding and disembarking from buses. The courses also covered directing vehicles and pedestrians to ensure smooth movement and safeguard lives along with prompt emergency response and initial support until specialised teams arrive. Participants learned how to play a preventive role by spreading traffic safety awareness among students and parents the police statement added.
Security guards represent the first line of defence in protecting student safety according to Bin Suwaidan. Equipping them with relevant knowledge and skills helps foster a culture of compliance with traffic laws and contributes to the protection of lives he noted in the announcement. Dubai Police regularly organises similar awareness and training programmes for students teachers and security guards to elevate safety levels within the school community.
These ongoing programmes aim to lower accident rates around schools and promote adherence to regulations in line with the force vision of safer roads for everyone the police statement indicated. In support of the 2026-27 academic year the force outlined deployment of 253 security and traffic patrols along with 28 drones to monitor school areas according to details released by Dubai Police.
The back-to-school safety operation involves 775 police personnel and 217 Safety Ambassadors alongside multiple awareness events across Dubai the police initiative reported. Captain Majid Al Kaabi Head of the School Security initiative described the combined efforts as creating a safer interactive environment for students and staff at public and private schools.
