Hamad Al Mheiri delivered a podium finish for Team Abu Dhabi by claiming third place at the Oman Sailing Championship the Emirates News Agency reported on December 8 2025. The result contributed to the UAE team’s overall strong showing at the inaugural World Sailing Inclusion Championships held in Mussanah from December 3 to 8. Organizers noted participation from 23 nations with the UAE sending its largest delegation from the Middle East and North Africa region.
According to World Sailing data the event brought together sailors with and without disabilities in a format designed to promote inclusion across multiple classes including ILCA and RS Venture. A World Sailing assessment found that competition intensified on day three with several nations trading positions in the overall standings. The UAE team secured second place overall in the championships a World Sailing summary stated.
Al Mheiri’s bronze came in one of the competitive fleets where Omani and Emirati sailors demonstrated high levels of performance throughout the week. World Sailing figures show that the inclusion championships featured more than 100 athletes competing in conditions typical of the Gulf waters in December. The event served as a platform for regional sailors to gain international exposure ahead of future global regattas.
Team Abu Dhabi’s preparation for the Oman event included targeted training sessions that built on the squad’s prior participation in national and regional circuits. A report from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council placed the team’s consistent results within the context of the emirate’s broader investment in marine sports infrastructure. Support from local authorities helped facilitate logistics for the multi-class competition held under World Sailing governance.
Additional UAE athletes posted notable finishes with one sailor taking second in the ILCA class and another pairing ending 24th in the mixed doubles RS Venture category according to official results released by organizers. The championships concluded with awards presented in Mussanah highlighting both individual and team achievements across disability and able-bodied categories. Further regional sailing events are scheduled for 2026 including the Arab Women’s Sailing Championship set for October in Oman per Oman Sail announcements.
