The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority unveiled the ‘Exciting Family Summer’ campaign to promote awareness and efficiency among residential customers, according to a statement distributed by the Emirates News Agency. The initiative targets families with interactive activities, educational resources and incentives designed to reduce consumption during the hottest months when demand typically surges. DEWA officials outlined plans for workshops, digital challenges and community events running through August, building on the utility’s annual summer programs that have operated for more than a decade.

Previous DEWA summer campaigns have contributed to notable savings, with authority figures showing reductions in per capita water and electricity use over the past five years. A DEWA assessment found that customer engagement in such programs helped ease strain on the grid, where peak electricity loads regularly exceed 10 gigawatts in July and August according to historical authority data. The current campaign incorporates lessons from those efforts while expanding family-oriented elements to reach younger residents.

Participation is available through the DEWA mobile application and website, the authority said in the announcement carried by WAM. Families can track their usage, complete sustainability challenges and compete for prizes that include smart home devices and educational kits. The statement emphasised collaboration with schools and community centres to broaden reach across the emirate.

Dubai’s population growth and extreme summer temperatures have driven consistent increases in resource demand, Central Statistical Bureau data for the emirate indicates. DEWA has responded with successive conservation drives, including the 2025 ‘Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer’ effort that utilised behavioural science and technology to encourage efficiency, according to authority records. The ‘Exciting Family Summer’ edition maintains this focus while framing activities to appeal directly to households with children.

The campaign aligns with broader Dubai strategic plans for sustainability, as outlined in government documents that set targets for reduced energy intensity by 2030. DEWA’s statement noted that family involvement remains central to achieving those objectives, given that residential accounts represent a substantial share of total consumption. Organisers have scheduled virtual and in-person sessions throughout the summer period to maintain momentum.

Additional details released by the authority include tip sheets on optimal air-conditioning settings, leak detection and appliance efficiency, all distributed via the campaign platform. WAM reported that DEWA will monitor participation metrics and share progress updates in coming weeks. The utility encouraged immediate enrolment to maximise benefits before temperatures reach their seasonal high.
